No Cameras, Strict Rules: Terengganu’s First Public Caning to Have Only 70 Witnesses

Mohd Affendi Awang is set to face public caning tomorrow, 27 December, following his conviction for repeatedly committing khalwat (close proximity). The punishment will take place at the Al Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque in Terengganu right after Friday prayers.

High Security Measures in Place

To maintain order during the event, 40 police officers and personnel will be deployed. Kuala Terengganu district police chief, ACP Azli Mohd Noor, emphasized that strict actions will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the proceedings or provoke the officers or the offender.

Limited Access and No Devices Allowed

Only 70 individuals will be allowed inside the caning room. Attendees are strictly prohibited from bringing in any electronic devices, such as mobile phones or cameras, as recording the event is forbidden.

“Police will conduct thorough checks to ensure no devices are brought in. This is to protect the integrity of the event,” said Azli.He also urged attendees to leave the mosque premises immediately after prayers to avoid unnecessary gatherings or disturbances.
