Navy Boat Crashes During LIMA 2025 Rehearsal, Sparks Public Concern

A Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) speed boat crash during a rehearsal for the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA ’25) has ignited concern over operational safety just days ahead of the high-profile event.
The incident, which occurred on 15 May around 4:34 PM, involved a TLDM boat that lost control during a high-speed maritime demonstration run. A viral video uploaded by TikTok user @kimie_dzuki captured the dramatic moment the vessel made an abrupt turn, generating a massive water spray before veering off course at uncontrollable speed.
Moments later, the boat collided with a nearby tourist vessel, briefly climbing over it before crashing further into a small island formation near the shore.
According to Langkawi District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari, five TLDM personnel were on board at the time of the incident. Two sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, no civilian injuries were reported.
In a statement following the incident, the Royal Malaysian Navy confirmed that no fatalities or serious injuries occurred. However, a formal board of inquiry will be convened to investigate the cause and evaluate whether procedural lapses contributed to the crash.
The mishap has sparked widespread discussion online, particularly as the LIMA exhibition remains one of Malaysia’s most anticipated defense and aerospace showcases — drawing local and international military, industry professionals, and civilian visitors alike.
