A Final Hug: Sick Horse Comforts Owner Before Being Put to Sleep

Horse’s Condition No Longer Treatable

A video shared on Threads by user @rayna.aronia has captured an emotional farewell between a teenage boy and his beloved horse, Buraq, who was suffering from a severe cartilage condition that could no longer be treated.

According to the post, Buraq had been unwell for a long time, but his condition had reached a critical stage where the cartilage in his legs had deteriorated and was close to fracturing, leaving euthanasia as the most humane option.

“Buraq has been sick for a long time. This time, he really can’t be treated anymore. The cartilage is already damaged and just waiting to crack,” she shared.

A Quiet Moment That Broke Hearts

In the video, the teenage owner is seen hugging the white horse inside its stable. What deeply touched viewers was the moment Buraq appeared to respond by gently resting his head on the boy’s shoulder, as if offering comfort in return.

The horse was also seen rubbing its head against the boy’s body, a gesture many described as similar to how pets show affection and emotional awareness.

Another photo showed the boy covering his face with his shirt, believed to be holding back tears during the difficult moment.

Islamic Perspective on Animal Euthanasia

According to guidance from the Federal Territories Mufti Office, euthanasia on animals is generally discouraged as it involves ending a life without cause.

However, exceptions are recognised when the animal is suffering severe, untreatable pain, and allowing it to continue living would cause greater harm. In such cases, euthanasia may be permitted to prevent prolonged suffering.

Netizens Say Horses Can Sense Human Emotions

The video sparked an emotional response online, with many saying horses are highly sensitive animals capable of understanding human emotions.

Some shared that horses can recognise sadness and distress, while others recounted their own painful experiences of saying goodbye to pets that could no longer be saved.

“Fun fact about horses, they can recognise emotions in both humans and other horses. That horse knew his owner was hurting,” one user commented.
