15yo Boy Surrenders to Police After Alleged RM40 Supermarket Theft
15-Year-Old Boy Surrenders to Police After Family Caught Allegedly Stealing RM41 Worth of Items from Supermarket
A family of four in Negeri Sembilan recently found themselves in hot water after being accused of stealing from a local supermarket. The incident, which went viral after a video of the confrontation was shared online, involved a teenage boy, his parents, and a young sibling.
Suspicion Raised at the Checkout
The situation unfolded when the teenage boy, who was carrying his younger sister, was stopped by a supermarket employee. Upon checking the boy’s bag, the staff allegedly found two packets of black pepper sauce and two packets of mayonnaise—items valued at RM41—with no receipt of payment.
A woman, believed to be the teen’s mother, intervened and begged for leniency, hoping the store would let them go. The employee replied that such a request was inappropriate if she knew her son was in the wrong.
Tensions Escalate
As security intervened to prevent the teenager from fleeing, the boy’s father also arrived at the scene. He attempted to pull his son away from the security guard and, in the process, physically assaulted the guard before the family fled in their vehicle.
The incident occurred at around 8:07 PM on July 11, at a supermarket located in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan.
Teen Surrenders to Police
In a recent update, Jempol District Police Chief Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar confirmed that the 15-year-old boy surrendered himself at the police station around 1 PM the following day, accompanied by his family members.
He was taken into custody but later released on police bail after providing a statement. According to Norhisham, the items involved were not paid for, and supermarket workers verified the absence of receipts.
Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the case under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which carries a maximum fine of RM100 upon conviction. Investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor in due course.
Despite the relatively minor value of the items, the case has sparked a debate online about family accountability, parenting, and the implications of such incidents on youth behaviour.
