According to reports, the homeowner allegedly owed around USD10,000 for three days of work before taking action. She was said to have waited until the roof was completed and then contacted ICE, even providing a ladder to help officers access the roof during the arrest operation.
Incident Captured And Went Viral
The situation was livestreamed for about 30 minutes by a colleague of the workers, Bryan Polanco, on platform X. The video quickly went viral, with Polanco saying he had heard of similar cases before where undocumented workers were hired and later reported to avoid payment. “Seeing it is not the same as experiencing it,” he said. “I have seen many videos, and unfortunately today I had to experience it myself.”
Families Express Their Pain
Families of the detained workers later shared their sadness in an interview with Univision. Among them was a woman who is five months pregnant and has two young children. They said the workers were only trying to earn a living honestly and improve their lives.

The video triggered anger online, with many focusing on possible exploitation of workers rather than just immigration enforcement. Some questioned why the homeowner was not investigated for hiring undocumented workers in the first place.
ICE Denies Receiving Any Report
An ICE spokesperson told reporters that the woman did not make any report and that the arrests were part of a targeted enforcement operation. The spokesperson said, “This was a targeted enforcement operation, not based on a tip from a caller. On March 23, ICE conducted a targeted operation near Cambridge, Maryland, leading to the arrest of six undocumented individuals. Some had final removal orders and one had previously been convicted for illegal re-entry.”
Doubts Continue Among Netizens
Despite the statement, many netizens believe ICE may be protecting the homeowner and suspect that information was provided. The spokesperson added that during the operation, the individuals allegedly refused lawful orders, tried to flee, and obstructed officers before eventually being detained, which many online still question.
