Wan Muhammad Azri Arrested Over Cheating Case – Is He Finally Paying the Price for His Controversies

Article:
Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, the political blogger better known as “Sir Azri,” was arrested early this morning (13 December) in connection with a cheating case under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The arrest took place at 1:30 AM, and he is currently being held on a one-day remand order.

Azri’s lawyer, Rafique Rashid, revealed that the arrest was made despite Azri having an appointment later that day with the police’s money laundering investigation unit to assist in their inquiry. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), an account called @MalayDigest claimed that up to 10 police officers arrived at Azri’s home to carry out the arrest and search.

The arrest has raised eyebrows, as the complaint filed against Azri is related to an issue involving Invoke Solutions, dating back to 2017. The report, however, was only lodged in 2024, a full seven years after the alleged incident took place. To make matters even more surprising, the complainant in this case is none other than the Minister of Economic Affairs, Rafizi Ramli.

Azri has long been associated with the controversial online persona “Papagomo,” a connection he has continuously denied. However, the confusion deepened when another political blogger, Suffi Kamari, tagged Azri with the “Papagomo” name in a post about the police raid at his home.

Azri’s past is no stranger to controversy. In 2019, he was involved in an assault case with Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, for which he was fined RM2,100 for causing physical harm and making derogatory remarks. More recently, in April 2024, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) filed a police report against Azri and two others for making false accusations about an MCMC officer, accusing them of acting on political orders and abusing their power.

Now, with his latest arrest, the question remains: Will Azri finally be held accountable for his actions, or will this be another chapter in his contentious political blogging career?
