Towering flames spotted near residential area

Residents around Taman Tun Abdul Razak (Taman TAR), Selangor were left alarmed last night after videos surfaced showing a towering column of flames and thick smoke rising from a nearby hilltop.
The footage, which quickly went viral on social media on 2 February, appeared to show the fire burning behind residential houses close to the Bukit Kembara Trail, along the Sungai Besi–Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) in Ampang.
Fire department confirms forest fire
According to New Straits Times, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the incident was a forest fire.
Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the fire was detected around 8pm and was located on a hilltop near Menara Indah Apartment.
He added that the affected area had no proper access route, making firefighting efforts more challenging.
Videos shared from multiple angles
Several residents and passersby shared videos of the blaze from different vantage points, showing flames shooting high into the air and smoke visible from a distance.
Some social media users claimed this was not the first fire to occur in the area within the same week, while others said they had noticed a persistent burning smell in recent days, even before the incident went viral.
Fire brought under control, cause still unknown
At the time of reporting, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the fire was under control.
However, the cause of the forest fire has yet to be determined, and investigations are still ongoing.
