Malaysian Teacher Joins World’s Top 18 Educators In US Programme

Lee Chye Mei, a mathematics teacher at Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban, has earned global recognition by being selected as one of only 18 top educators for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Programme Spring 2025 in the United States.

Among thousands of applicants worldwide, Lee was the sole Malaysian representative. She spent six weeks at Georgia State University and gained hands-on experience teaching at North Atlanta High School.

Reflecting on the experience, Lee shared, “This journey really opened my eyes. I saw how students thrive when teachers guide rather than just lecture. It fostered active participation, critical thinking, and confidence in the classroom.”

She was especially inspired by the student-centred approach and creative use of technology in US classrooms, which she said made learning more engaging and dynamic.

Beyond her academic mission, Lee proudly showcased Malaysian culture to fellow participants and students. “Introducing Malaysia wasn’t just about our cuisine or fashion—it was about our values, our dreams, and the spirit of our people.”

She expressed her gratitude to the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) for their constant support. “They believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself,” Lee said.

To her, teaching is more than a job—it’s a mission to help students see their potential. “Each time a student speaks up with confidence, I know something is changing,” she concluded.
