Job hunting is never easy, but the King has a strong message for fresh graduates: stop being too selective, or you’ll lose out to foreign workers.
Speaking at the 100th Convocation Ceremony at UiTM on November 13, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim reminded graduates to grab opportunities before it’s too late.
“Being too picky not only harms the graduates but also negatively impacts the country’s development,” the King stressed.
He further warned that those who are overly selective risk becoming “honourably unemployed,” leaving the available jobs to foreign labour.
Youth Must Be Independent
The King also urged young people not to rely too much on the government for support.
“Relying solely on government aid weakens and pacifies the younger generation,” he stated, emphasizing that such dependency could destroy self-confidence and hinder self-improvement.
“As future leaders of the country, this is an attitude that must be avoided,” he added.
Sultan Ibrahim highlighted the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their personal growth to ensure the nation continues to progress.
“Every individual, whether from the younger generation, civil servants, or politicians, must have the courage to change themselves for the betterment of the nation,” he explained.
The King concluded his speech by expressing appreciation to UiTM for its role in producing skilled graduates and hoped the institution would continue to lead Malaysia’s educational and societal development.
