Growing up, getting ice cream from the neighborhood ice cream man was always a delightful experience. But who would’ve guessed that ice cream vendors might have specific people they won’t sell to?

User @preeyangka23 took to TikTok to share a recent incident at Pantai Remis, Kuala Selangor, describing it as a “heartbreaking experience” during a sunny day at the beach with her family.

In the video, she narrates how her nieces and nephews excitedly approached the ice cream man for a treat, only to be shocked when he refused to sell to them. The reason? The ice cream man refused service because Preeyangka and her family were Indian, a decision prominently displayed on his motorbike.

Preeyangka clarified that her intention behind sharing the incident is not to harm anyone but to raise awareness that stereotyping isn’t the solution.

She explained that the ice cream man had a prior unpleasant encounter with a group of drunk Indians who caused trouble at his shop. Unfortunately, this incident led him to refuse service to Preeyangka’s family.

“My nieces and nephews are just kids who want ice cream. They’re not going to get drunk and attack you,” she emphasized.

Despite the disappointing experience, Preeyangka shared how a Malay family at the beach stepped in to buy ice cream for her nieces and nephews, showcasing kindness and breaking stereotypes.

Expressing her hope for breaking stereotypes, she urged people not to assume that everyone from a particular group invites trouble.

She concluded the video with advice for all Indians to behave responsibly, particularly when consuming alcohol in public, to maintain a positive reputation.

Despite the vendor’s actions, reports suggest that he later posted an apology video following the incident.
