British Man Confesses to Curry Puff Addiction After Being Stuck in Malaysia
Darren Cronian Reveals His Unexpected Malaysian Addiction
A British entrepreneur and content creator has taken social media by surprise after confessing his deep love for a beloved Malaysian snack — curry puffs.
Darren Cronian, a YouTuber known for his travel content, shared on Threads that he became addicted to the flaky, savoury pastries after being stranded in Malaysia for over a year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
“Not many people know this, but during the pandemic (Covid-19), I was stuck in Malaysia. I tried to get a flight out, but everything was cancelled or the borders were closed. In the end, I stayed here for 14 months! During that time, I got addicted to curry puffs,” Darren wrote.
Daily Ritual: Coffee and Curry Puffs at MyNews
While staying in Malaysia, Darren developed a daily routine that many locals could relate to. Each morning, he would head to the MyNews store near his condominium to pick up two curry puffs and a cup of coffee.
He even joked that the shopkeeper got so familiar with him, she would have his breakfast ready the moment she saw him approaching from a distance.
When asked about his favourite curry puffs, Darren admitted that IKEA’s version topped his list.
Flew 9,600KM Just to Eat Nasi Lemak
This isn’t Darren’s first brush with Malaysian food fame. Six years ago, he made headlines when he flew a staggering 9,600 kilometres from Athens, Greece to Kuala Lumpur because he was craving nasi lemak.
According to Darren, the spontaneous trip happened after he came across a string of nasi lemak posts on Instagram. He was initially planning a trip to Kos, a Greek island, but changed his mind last minute.
“I just couldn’t stop thinking about it,” he said. And in true foodie fashion, he didn’t regret it for a second.
