Indonesians recently expressed admiration and envy towards the unique design of Malaysia’s passport after it went viral on social media. They praised the passport not only for its attractive design but also for its impressive power.
One user on X remarked, “Lucky to be a Malaysian citizen. The passport is expensive and can be used anywhere without requiring a visa. Not like us.” This comment refers to the strength of Malaysia’s passport, which ranks among the world’s best.
A video that went viral on X revealed the true design of Malaysia’s passport, which many had previously considered ordinary. However, when illuminated with UV light, hidden beauty features appeared. Each page of the passport showcases iconic buildings, mosques, and the hibiscus flower, symbolizing Malaysia. This detailing not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also serves as an added security feature.
This makes Malaysia’s passport look more premium compared to other countries’ passports, and many have praised the design. Some humorously suggested that this might be why immigration officers sometimes take longer to process passports.
According to Henley & Partners’ latest report, Malaysia’s passport ranks 12th globally among the most powerful passports, up from 14th place in 2023. Malaysian passport holders are now allowed to enter 182 countries without a visa, compared to 179 countries last year.
This is Malaysia’s best performance since 2014 when the passport ranked 8th. The most powerful passport in the world still belongs to Singapore, which allows visa-free travel to 192 destinations. In Southeast Asia, Malaysia ranks second, while in Asia, it is in fourth place, behind Singapore, Japan, and South Korea.
