US Guitarist’s DMs Flooded by Malaysian SPM Students After Being Mentioned in English Listening Test

The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations for teenagers born in 2006 officially began on January 30, 2023. However, some portions of the English and Malay language tests, including the oral and listening segments, started before today’s date. Specifically, the official listening test for English language took place on January 29, and an unexpected reference to American guitarist and jazz musician Kyle Green in the SPM 2024 exam caught the artist’s attention. Green took to his Instagram page @kylegreenmusic to share that he received numerous direct messages, emails, and phone calls from SPM students across Malaysia, informing him that a character resembling him was featured in the listening portion of their English language exam.

In a series of Instagram stories, Green mentioned that students had listened to an interview where the interviewer was supposedly talking to a musician named Kyle Green, known as a jazz musician. However, Green expressed his uncertainty, stating that he couldn’t recall such an interview and believed it might be a fictional creation. After discovering his inclusion in the test, Green shared that SPM students actively searched for him online and flooded him with messages. While expressing his appreciation for the interest and kind words, Green also cautioned users about potential fake accounts trying to imitate him during this moment. He concluded his Instagram stories by sending good wishes to the students and expressing gratitude for their engagement.
