“Influencer Duo Caught in Deepfake Scam—AI-Generated Videos Promote Gambling Sites”

Popular Malaysian influencer duo Ahma Alvin and Alvin Teo have found themselves at the center of a troubling online scam after discovering their faces and voices were manipulated in fake advertisements for illegal gambling websites. The heartwarming grandmother-grandson pair, known for their genuine and wholesome content, were shocked to see their likenesses promoting betting platforms such as YE5 and 888 — something they had never endorsed.
The convincing deepfake videos, powered by AI-generated voices mimicking their speech, appeared across multiple social media platforms, potentially misleading thousands of unsuspecting followers. Upon learning about the scam, Ahma Alvin and Alvin Teo wasted no time in filing a police report and warning their audience about the fraudulent content.
Their management team has since confirmed that they have never promoted gambling websites and are now pursuing legal action against those responsible for the unauthorized use of their identities.
This incident highlights a worrying rise in AI-driven scams targeting public figures in Malaysia. Authorities have seen an increase in deepfake content featuring well-known personalities, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, used to promote investment scams. With AI technology advancing rapidly, online users are being urged to remain vigilant against increasingly realistic fraudulent content.
