A police officer in Kelantan has been remanded for three days starting today, 7 April, after being accused of demanding a RM10,000 bribe from the family of a rape victim in exchange for closing the case.

Arrested at His Office in Jeli

According to Berita Harian, the suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested at his workplace in Jeli by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday evening, 6 April.

Reports claim the officer had approached the mother of the rape victim, allegedly requesting money to “close the case” involving her daughter. The alleged rape incident is believed to have occurred a few months ago.

Appeared in Court for Remand in MACC Lock-Up Attire

As reported by Kosmo, the police officer arrived at the Magistrate’s Court compound around 8:20 AM this morning, wearing an orange MACC lock-up shirt and dark blue pants.

The remand order was granted by Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid to allow further investigation into the alleged corruption.

Confirmed by Kelantan MACC Director

Kelantan MACC Director Rosli Husain confirmed the arrest and said that the officer would be remanded for three days — from 7 April until 9 April — to assist in the ongoing probe.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which pertains to the solicitation or receipt of bribes by public servants.

If Convicted, He Could Face Serious Consequences

Under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, those found guilty of accepting or asking for a bribe can face:

Imprisonment of up to 20 years

A fine not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher
