RM170 Million in Cash & 16kg of Gold Bars Seized – MACC Uncovers Major Scandal Involving Former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri

Malaysia’s fight against corruption has taken a dramatic turn as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) uncovered RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars hidden in a luxury condominium in Kuala Lumpur. The property is believed to be a “safe house” used by an aide to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Massive Seizure at the Secret ‘Safe House’

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the seized cash consisted of multiple currencies, including Baht, Riyal, Pounds, Won, Euros, Swiss Francs, and Yuan. The high-end condominium was allegedly rented by one of four key suspects already arrested in connection with this case.

In addition to the staggering cash amount, authorities also seized 16kg of gold bars, estimated to be worth nearly RM7 million.

Ongoing Investigation – More Assets May Be Linked

Azam Baki emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and MACC is actively looking into whether other undisclosed assets are linked to the case.

“We are investigating this case professionally, without bias towards anyone’s status or position. We are not only probing the projects involved but also identifying who has benefited from them,” he stated.

MACC has already ordered Ismail Sabri to declare his assets under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009 as of December 11, 2024.

Previously, two individuals with the title ‘Datuk’ were among four former senior officers of Ismail Sabri who were detained by MACC to assist in the investigation. Three of them were remanded for five days starting February 21, while another was held for three days under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
