A wild incident unfolded in Johor Bahru when a 17-year-old girl made the drastic decision to jump out of a moving car near the Perling toll plaza. Why? She feared she was being kidnapped after her e-hailing driver suddenly switched routes!
This nerve-wracking episode reportedly took place around 5pm on 11 August. The story went viral on social media, with claims that the Grab driver disabled his location tracking, switched his app to offline mode, and then took a mysterious detour. The terrified teen, thinking she was in serious danger, felt she had no choice but to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle.
The post quickly sparked concern, urging other girls to share their live location with family or friends as a safety precaution.
But wait, there’s more to the story! Both the driver and the shaken-up passenger filed police reports after the incident. North Johor Bahru district police chief ACP MS Balveer Singh confirmed the whole ordeal, but here’s the twist: it turns out there was no criminal intent after all.
Balveer explained that the driver had to change routes due to road maintenance. He was simply trying to make a U-turn at Taman Perling when things took a turn for the worse. Unfortunately, the girl panicked when she noticed the change in direction and jumped out of the car.
The driver reportedly stopped immediately to offer help, but by then, bystanders had already rushed the girl to the hospital. She only suffered minor injuries, but the whole situation left everyone on edge.
In the aftermath, Balveer had some advice for both drivers and passengers. He urged e-hailing drivers to keep passengers informed about any route changes to avoid misunderstandings like this one. He also reminded the public to stay alert but to think twice before making risky decisions that could endanger themselves or others.
His final tip? “If something seems off, talk to the driver or reach out for help. And if you’re still feeling unsafe, don’t hesitate to call the police!”
