Unclaimed Money Now Reaches RM12.7 Billion

KUALA LUMPUR: The total amount of unclaimed money (WTD) recorded as of January 31 has reached RM12.7 billion.
The Ministry of Finance stated that individuals or rightful heirs could submit their claims online through the eGUMIS website or visit JANM counters in every state.
Methods for checking and claiming unclaimed money can be referred to on the eGUMIS JANM portal or at JANM counters, depending on the applicant’s preference.
According to the Ministry of Finance, JANM has taken various measures to inform owners or heirs about WTD, including awareness campaigns through briefings and exhibition booths at government and private sector programs such as the Madani Rakyat Program, open days, and customer service days at government departments and public venues.
“This initiative allows the public to check whether they have any unclaimed funds,” the ministry stated in an official release.
As of 2024, a total of 158 awareness booths and programs have been conducted across Malaysia to educate the public about WTD and the process for claiming it.
The ministry was responding to a question from S Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput) in the Dewan Rakyat regarding the latest WTD figures, the claim process, and the government’s efforts to ensure owners or heirs are aware of these funds.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance stated that JANM has also conducted online briefings for government agencies and private entities to explain the procedures for checking and submitting WTD claims.
