Uncle Kentang Shares Chilling Story of Wig and Morgue Sounds

Uncle Kentang Recounts Eerie Morgue Sounds That Ended After Wig Was Returned

In a spine-chilling Facebook post, social activist Kuan Chee Heng — better known as Uncle Kentang — recounted an unforgettable case that shook even his decades-long experience in funeral arrangements.

Sounds from the Morgue That Wouldn’t Stop

The case involved a deceased woman who passed away on 21 March 2025. Her remains were held at the hospital while police attempted, unsuccessfully, to trace her next of kin for almost two months.

Kuan was eventually entrusted with the responsibility of handling her final rites. However, as he was signing documents at the mortuary, the forensic staff issued an unusual warning: “Please put back her crown.”

Disturbing Noises from the Compartment

According to Kuan, the forensic staff recounted hearing unsettling noises — described as “knocking” or “ruffling” — coming specifically from the woman’s compartment in the morgue.

“Each time he was on duty, the sounds would come from that particular compartment,” Kuan wrote, adding that the staff was disturbed and worried by the persistent phenomenon.

In their experience, it felt as though the deceased was sending a message.

A Wig, a Promise, and a Chilling Discovery

Digging deeper, the staff traced the woman’s hospital admission records and learned she had worn a wig because of hair loss from cancer treatment. A nurse remembered how she had warned staff not to mishandle her “crown” — the wig that made her feel beautiful despite her illness.

Unfortunately, the wig had been left behind in the ward and wasn’t transferred with her body. Upon discovering this, the staff retrieved the wig, placed it in a paper box, and laid it beside her remains in the morgue.

Noises Vanish After Wig Is Returned

Astonishingly, Kuan reported that the unsettling noises stopped immediately after the wig was reunited with the deceased.

“There were no more ruffling sounds from that compartment,” he wrote.

Staff then urged Kuan to ensure the wig was placed back on her head when preparing her for the coffin — or risk “facing the consequences.” Kuan took the advice seriously and asked the funeral parlour’s cosmetologist to carefully place the wig on the woman for her wake at the Jinjang Funeral Parlour in Kuala Lumpur.

A Funeral with Dignity and a Personal Promise

Determined to respect the woman’s final wishes, Kuan arranged for a proper send-off, complete with two bouquets of flowers and a monk’s chanting at her wake.

The woman was cremated at Cheras Crematorium on 16 May, and her ashes were then brought back to the funeral parlour for her final rites. Kuan, who has been in the funeral business since 1991, said he had never experienced a case like this and felt it was fate that brought them together.

“I believe she chose me to handle her last rites delicately,” he reflected, adding that he plans to scatter her ashes at the Pulau Ketam jetty.

A Lesson on Respecting the Dead

Kuan, known for his compassion in handling unclaimed bodies, vowed to locate the woman’s next of kin. “A promise to the dead must be fulfilled,” he wrote.

In his post, he urged everyone to live a life of kindness and integrity. “Do good. Never do bad things and have evil intention in your daily life,” he advised.

Whether one chooses to believe the story or not, Kuan’s experience is a powerful reminder of the respect owed to every soul — even in death.
